This week new guest writer L.R. posted an essay titled PTSD & Justice. L.R. served a long military career and now helps other vets as he pulls his sentence in an Ohio prison. Throughout my lifetime behind bars, I’ve witnessed first hand the struggles of veterans with PTSD. His essay highlights an issue few people know about, but is important to every incarcerated vet. If you’re a vet or know someone who is you’ll want to read PTSD & Justice. L.R. is currently writing part 2 to PTSD & Justice, and as soon as he’s ready I’ll share his thoughts with you.
In the mean time, I’ll be making a break and writing this coming Monday’s post. What’s a break? Prison food! You’ll be amazed at what we eat around here, and frankly, you just *might* enjoy trying a recipe or two. If you need a pick me up, it’s ‘Foxies’ and ‘Coffee bombs’ that convicts turn to. Want something to snack on? Home made taffy and fudge bars are prison hustle favorites. Learn all about them on Monday 8/31/20.
COVID cases here appear to have plateaued for the time being, but there are a number of things going on that are certain to continue the spread. Word on the compound is that the warden wants COVID to spread through the facility and ‘run its course’ so that we can get past it. If the grapevine didn’t confirm this from so many different staff, I’d’ve said that’s ludicrous. From what I’m witnessing, it just may be accurate.
Men from the COVID quarantine units continue to be spread across the institution and placed into virus free housing units. My unit received one of these men this week, and two days after his arrival he fell out and required medical attention. To everyone’s horror, the medical staff decided to test him again, and now we all await his results.
*For those of you who are new, I’ve created a running glossary just for you (yes, it’s true). The link is found at the top of the page. In it you’ll find definitions for terms that I use throughout these posts. There’s a unique language used by convicts that unless you’ve pulled time In This World you’d be nonethewiser. Go ahead and check it, you’ll be glad you did.
