If you’ve been following my writings you already know that I am a keen observer of world events. For those of you who’ve recently discovered my writings, check out my posts in the International category titled: “So it was, so it is and so it shall be,” “Hotel California,” and “Same Old Song and Dance.” The assassination of Iran’s top general Qaasam Soleimani has sparked a lot of controversy, but frankly it was long over due. This man was directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American troops.

#10: Video Fridays in Sixty Seconds — Letters, and Sex Addictions, Part 2
In my December 23, 2019 post titled “I’m D.E., A Sex Offender,” I posted the first part of D.E.’s guest writing about his sex addiction. Today I am posting the second part of his essay, and you can read it here. It is very difficult for him to bare himself to the world, and he writes whenever he has the courage to do so. I commend him for confronting his problems. We all have our own, don’t we? Offering you his essay is part of his rehabilitation. I’ll post the next part of his essay in next week’s Video Fridays In 60 Seconds, along with that of a new guest writer!
Before I go, a number of the guys that I’ve asked to write guest essays have said to me that they want to, but don’t believe anyone cares about them or what they’d have to say. Sadly, this is a common perception amongst inmates. It’s born from the cold, impersonal experience of incarceration.
Part of addressing incarceration is to encourage public discourse and understanding. Each post and each guest essay is a snapshot into the reality and challenge of incarceration. Please share these writings with others.

#9: Video Fridays in Sixty Seconds — Christmas, Political Drama, and Angel Tree
Ah, the week before Christmas! This week was your typical end of year holiday week around here. There are cheerful guys and frumpy ones, mopey guys and suspiciously happy ones. The guys that are happy are easy to spot, the suspiciously happy even more so (they’re UNUSUALLY chatty). As for the guys that are frumpy and mopey? That’s another story. (I wrote a little about these in my holiday post Cry Baby, Santa and the Easter Bunny). Needless to say, I drew a wide path around the chaos. Does it faze me? Nah. The holidays here are what you choose them to be. I choose zen.

Grieving in Fast Forward
I think the most difficult aspect of doing time isn’t the day to day violence. No, not the fights. Not the thieving or hustling or nefarious deceptions cons engage in for their means to their ends. It’s not the gangs, hate groups, crooked guards, or the poor medical services or the bad food.
#4: Video Fridays in 60 Seconds — JPay Video Services, Rehabilitation in Ohio, and Time
Under the current Ohio DRC director, a number of efforts have been made to push rehabilitation. The electronic services I have access to are a direct result of this push, and by far I see these services as beneficial and positive. I record “Video Friday’s In 60 Seconds” videos using a JPay 30 second video option while sitting at a dedicated JPay owned kiosk. I find their video services to be their best services and am thankful they offer it.
